Storm Damage and Roofing

We get it all here in Minnesota—snow, sleet, rain, hail and wind. And everything Mother Nature throws at us can wreak havoc on our homes. No matter what the season, our volatile Midwest weather puts even the best roofing systems to the test. So, it’s always a good idea to periodically check your home for evidence of damage to your roof, and it’s especially important after a snowstorm, windstorm, hailstorm, or long period of rain, snow or temperature extremes. Here’s what you should look for:

On the INSIDE of your home:

• Wet spots, stains or flaking paint on the ceilings

• Stains, streaking, dripping or mold on the walls

• Puddles or sloping on the floors

• Damp insulation or puddles in the attic

• Musty or moldy smell

On the OUTSIDE of your home:

• Shingle granules at the bottom of your gutters or around your yard

• Missing or damaged shingles

• Damaged or loosened gutters

• Damaged siding that could indicate misdirected water from the roof

• Fallen tree limbs or other debris

Contact us as soon as possible if you find any amount of damage, no matter how small. We can assess the integrity of your roof and advise you on whether you should file a claim with your insurance company. And always remember, keeping on top of small problems before they become big problems is far better on your roof, your home and your budget.
